Days of the Dead: Ancestral Healing & Conscious Dying

During the famous days of the dead, the veil between the physical and astral planes is the thinnest, allowing for an exceptional exchange between the world of the living and the world of the dead. “Days of the Dead: Ancestral Healing & Conscious Dying” explores this special time and what you can do to heal generational trauma and bring reconciliation and joy to yourself and your loved ones.

What is Dia de los Muertos or All Saints Day?

Celebrated worldwide, the famous days of the dead are a special time in which the veil between the physical plane and the astral plane is the thinnest, allowing for an exceptional exchange between the world of the living and the world of the dead. All Saints Day, or Dia de los Muertos, is the only time of the year that your departed loved ones can join you for a transformative experience, transmuting mourning, loss and sadness into reconciliation, healing and joy.

Around the world, people place candles and flowers in cemeteries and at the graves of their deceased relatives and ancestors to celebrate this important time.

It’s possible to have a relationship with your ancestors. Your ancestors are, or can become, your friends and your guides. They can support you in your life’s journey and you can help them heal as well.

How do my ancestors live on in me?

When you are born, you don’t incarnate into a blank slate but instead into the matrix of your ancestral lineage. Everyone knows that we are the product of our parents’ genetic heritage. What many don’t realize is that we are also the products of their generational heritage – the traumas and suffering faced by previous generations, often unexamined, that remained trapped in their bodies and psyches only to be carried forth to subsequent generations when they died.

Ancestors are family members and blood relatives who have died and passed into the spiritual realm. Even if you were not raised by blood relatives growing up, you still carry their DNA, physical traits, and predispositions.

Sometimes, one passes away leaving unfinished business behind. Sometimes, one dies from illness, a sign that some wounding or emotional trauma was not solved before departing from the world of the living. Sometimes, in the act of dying one doesn’t realize that they are crossing over, creating confusion.

It is said that ancestors live on into future generations through bones and blood. The issues they could not resolve during their lifetimes are passed on to their children, and their children’s children, waiting to be healed. If an issue is not resolved in the lifetime of an ancestor, it can hopefully find in you a worthy successor to bring resolution and peace to the issue for the highest good of all. This is the price you pay for the privilege of being incarnated.

Why would I want to communicate with my ancestors?

When you heal a particular issue from your lineage, everyone in your bloodline benefits from it. The healing extends to the past as well as to future generations. This is why it includes yourself, your siblings, your parents, and your children – all of your blood relations.

You don’t need any special powers or clairvoyance to connect with your ancestors. Even if you are not a healer, you can contribute to the clearing of your lineage and everyone in it. The 3-session program Days of the Dead: Ancestral Healing & Conscious Dying can help you do this and is described at the end of this post.

There are often points of confusion when working with ancestors. Are your ancestors beneficial or detrimental beings? Are your ancestors wise and able to provide you with support and guidance? Or do your ancestors need your help?

Some of your ancestors may be wise, others may not. Some may feel really lost or dissatisfied. Some may have made a lot of mistakes and may be filled with guilt or regret. The same way your current relatives and friends may feel unconditional love towards you, or may create obstacles in your life, you can have all kind of ancestors, benevolent as well as detrimental.

There is no need to fear either way. Ancestral clearing is a profound way to harmonize your lineage regardless of who you find on your journey. On one hand, your ancestors are spirits who guide you and help you to better understand yourself and life. Though times have changed, your ancestors understand many of the same struggles you are experiencing. They walked on this earth before you, so they understand human experience.

This makes their guidance extremely valuable. Ancestral spiritual guidance is something we can all use throughout our lives.

How do ancestors show up in multiple generations?

An example of how ancestors show up in our lives is described in the following excerpt from a published interview with Candice Georgiadis in Authority Magazine, Feb 2, 2022 entitled “Female Founders: Suteja and Paula Grace of Inner Treasure Hunt On The Five Things You Need To Thrive and Succeed as a Woman Founder.”

Candace:  Only about 20 percent of funded companies have women founders. This reflects great historical progress, but it also shows that more work still has to be done to empower women to create companies. In your opinion and experience what is currently holding back women from founding companies?

Suteja: My answer is going to seem far-fetched but I’m a healer and I’ve seen that my patients’ identities are often built on the identities of their parents and ancestors. Through our work together they would discover hidden reservoirs of unresolved family trauma stuck in their bodies, clinging to their organs and muscles and joints, without their awareness or consent. I would work on a painful part of their body and they would get an image of something, perhaps weep, and release long-held physical pain. Later they would tell me that their images had to do with things they had vague inklings about which were whispered in the family but never openly discussed since they were taboo. By releasing their connections to their ancestors’ traumas, they healed not only their pain but the pain of their family line for generations in both directions. So I’ve recognized that we all contain bits of our ancestors psychically and physically, a recognition shared by many in the healing community.

My personal experiences are scientifically substantiated by the scholarly study of Transgenerational Epigenetic Inheritance, the passing on of traits from parents to children from generation to generation, including experiences of trauma. Mark Wolynn, Director of the Family Constellation Institute, explains the studies supporting TEI in his enlightening and readable book “It Didn’t Start with You: How Inherited Family Trauma Shapes Who We Are and How to End the Cycle.” Once you recognize that this is going on, my answer will make more sense.

As much as we would like to speed up the world for women founding companies, the woundings of women are so deep and have lasted so long that the impediments are still engrained in the cells and subconscious of women the world over. I’m talking about thousands of generations of women raised to question their ability to survive on their own without a male provider, of being terrified of being sexually active or having a child out of wedlock, of being seen as worthless if they couldn’t procreate, of being considered chattel and second-class citizens. My own mother told me about how her father threatened to kick her out of the family if she got pregnant before marriage, and how women in her grandmother’s generation were thrown in jail if they got pregnant without being married (based on the laws in France at the time).

The root of one’s power, according to the chakra system devised by ancient Yogis, is the first chakra where sexual organs and sexual pleasure are. Basic energetic empowerment comes from each chakra, and most women have been denied access to their own sexual pleasure and the root of their power throughout recorded history. This denial is embedded subconsciously in women, and every woman has to fight against it as she tries to rise. It’s like the chains on Marley’s ghost in “A Christmas Carol” – whether you realize it or not, chances are that your female ancestors were not free to express their sexuality or be empowered by doing so, and you’re dragging the chains of their imprisonment behind you.

The oppression of women has been going on for millennia and the rise of the women’s movement in the last half-century is a step in the right direction but a drop in the ancestral bucket. The pernicious societal trauma that every woman carries in her bones and reproductive organs will take generations to release, but we don’t have to wait. There are many ways to address ancestral trauma which is why our classes and events offer a variety of methods. As more women heal, the female wounding will be released from the collective subconscious and not carried forward.

How can I communicate with my ancestors?

You can create opportunities to ask for guidance from an ancestor. This is part of the most ancient shamanic knowledge of the world. And you can connect with any of your ancestors, even if you did not know them personally.

Guided meditation focused on ancestral healing can help you address a personal issue that may have resisted previous healing attempts through different modalities. If this issue wasn’t created by your own actions but by the karma and unfinished businesses of your ancestors, those modalities may have not addressed the right cause of the issue, which is why they failed. This is why to heal yourself, if helps to heal your ancestors.

The program described below is a combination of three consecutive nights which you can attend live or view the recordings of. Either way, this work will support your efforts to communicate with, and heal your relationships with, your own ancestors.

Days of the Dead: Ancestral Healing & Conscious Dying

In Days of the Dead: Ancestral Healing & Conscious Dying, you will receive the treasures of knowledge of the ancient Toltec teachings about life and death, how to heal ancestral wounds and prepare for your own passing. Live online October 31st, November 1st & 2nd 2022 and recorded.

days of the dead

Day 1 is about helping one of your ancestors or departed loved ones to find peace. Often, an entire lineage is plagued by a mysterious detrimental pattern and healing work is needed to bring back harmony to support past, present and future generations. You will be able to choose the departed family member you want to work with, but the soul you can help the most will probably show up in your meditation.

Day 2 is about communicating with an ancestor, known or unknown to you that can provide support or answers to a present predicament or question you may have. Think about where in your life you need more clarity and more strength. You will be able to choose the departed family member or friend you want to work with, but the soul that can help you the most will probably show up in your meditation.

Day 3 is about preparing your own death and letting go of the fundamental fear associated with it. Through a special Toltec practice, you will learn to stay conscious during the dying process, which is known to grant many spiritual gifts for your future incarnation or your next step. Writing the last chapter of your life- your passing, helps rewrite your entire life in alignment with your highest destiny.

You can register for live online events or recordings by sending a message through the ITH Contact page.

It is up to you to begin to cultivate a relationship with your bloodline to clear more of your family karma. Repeat the practice when you see a recurring family pattern arising in your life or if you want to find the cause of mysterious repetitive issues. You will benefit in myriad ways, and will extend these benefits to everyone in your living and deceased lineage.
