Hindu concept of chakras

The word “chakra” comes from the ancient Sanskrit and means wheel or lotus. A wheel implies turning and a lotus implies a flower with petals that can open or close. This means that chakras are centers of swirling energy, known as “prana,” that process different frequencies or qualities of energy. Each chakra processes a different frequency which corresponds to a different aspect of human life.

Meditation Script for Chakras Journey – Part 2 – Your Tribe

The seers and wise people of India left us important clues about the functions of each chakra through their Sanskrit names. The name of each chakra tells you what the energy center is about. “Meditation Script for Chakras Journey – Part 2 – Your Tribe” focuses on the first and second chakras, which form the foundation of balance and harmony in your life.

The first chakra, which corresponds to the coccyx at the very base of the spine, is called the Muladhara chakra, which means “the support of the base.” Known as the root chakra, the first chakra supports your stability and helps you anchor yourself into the earth. Its color is red.

This energy center is about your connection with the earth, the way you ground yourself, and your physical health, especially your immune system which is your natural defense system. The root chakra relates to your finances and your ability to deal with the practical aspects of life to manifest what you want, in other words, your abundance. When your first chakra is blocked, you may feel threatened or unsteady. To understand your first chakra, look at your survival skills.

The second chakra, which is located above the pubic bone, is called the Swadhisthana chakra, which means the abode of the self, or “where your being is established.” Its color is orange.

The second chakra is located below your navel, at the level of your sexual organs. This energy center is about sensuality, sexuality, desires, and the ability to bring satisfaction to these desires in your life. This is about how you connect subconsciously and get attached to others, including your ability to attract a life partner and sustain a relationship. This energy center tells you about how you enjoy life’s pleasures. When your second chakra is blocked, you may lack the deep desire to be alive and stay alive. To understand your second chakra, look at what you have created with your life force.

Toltec concept of totonalcayos

Hindus were not the only culture to understand the linkages between energy centers along the spine up through the cranium. The ancient Toltec civilization of modern-day Mexico also recognized this connection.

The Toltec word “Totonalcayos” means energy centers that are activated by the sun. They reside in the front of body along the spine, except the first tonalcayo which is located in the back of the body at the bottom of the spine (like the Hindu first chakra).

Fifteen-foot tall statues of Atlantean warriors can be found at the Temple of Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli (‘House of the Morning Star’ or ‘The Temple of the Lord in the Dawn’) in Tula, Mexico. The front and back of the statues are carved with symbols, but the most interesting aspect of these sculptures are the human skulls sculpted at the sacrum of each statue.

A skull represents consciousness because it holds our mind, memories, and the thought processes that make us who we are. A skull at the sacrum represents collective consciousness, experience, memories from your ancestors that build who you are even before you are born, before you develop your own sense of individuality. Interestingly enough, this correlates to the modern concept of craniosacral therapy in which it is known that mental tensions manifest as lower back pain.

The second tonalcayo governed your instinctive self, your life force, your sexuality, your creative expression, desires and deepest emotions. It related to your sensuality, meaning to all your senses. Your sensory system nourishes your terrestrial life, your pleasure to be alive, through your senses. Again, the Toltec resemble the Hindu understanding of these energy centers.

Both the first and second chakras/totonalcayos are subconscious chakras. Your subconscious is in your body and the best way to feel these two chakras is to trigger a specific physical sensation.

How chakras manifest physically

The first chakra responds to gravity, the pull downward towards the center of the earth. When you connect with the earth below, you can feel a subtle response from your body at the base of your spine.

For most women, the second chakra, which is a point located under your navel inside your body, is at the same point as your center of gravity. Your gravity center balances your upper and lower body weight and it changes depending on size and body weight. For men, the center of gravity is slightly above the belly button, but for women it’s usually below. This special point plays a role in your balance, for example when you step on a moving escalator or on a boat.

You can do an exercise to connect with these two chakras through physical sensations. Take a seated position, with your back straight. Close your eyes and slowly focus on the lower part of your body, your abdomen, hips, buttocks, legs, feet, soles of the feet. Stretch your spine up and then feel the effect of gravity, the force that pulls your body downward, toward the earth.

Move your hips slightly forward to allow a better stability and anchoring. Send your roots into the ground, connecting deeply with mother earth. Find your center of gravity by imagining that you are stepping on a boat. Feel the activation of your center of gravity to keep your equilibrium and balance.

Now stop the visualization. To locate your second chakra, touch the point under your navel and press it firmly with your fingers. Did you feel like your second chakra was the same point as your center of gravity? If yes, you have an easy way to feel your second chakra.

As mentioned, the first and second chakras rule your subconscious. But to be more precise, they govern two aspects of your subconscious:

  1. The collective subconscious.
  2. The individual, personal subconscious.

Your tribe: Your journey didn’t start with you

Ancestors, the tribe, and the earth were most understood by the ancient Shamanic traditions of the world, and civilizations that were very much connected with the earth and her power. From this wisdom came beliefs about who we are and how we fit into the story of the earth.

The first chakra holds the part of you that is born from the collective and those who came before you. This is about becoming aware of the subtle but powerful influence of the collective subconscious on your energy field and psyche. From this first tribal energy center emerges your second energy center that holds your individuality, your sense of self that is unique to you.

Certain innate characteristics are common to all mankind, and the collective subconscious is common to all human beings. According to Jung, past experiences of previous generations are ‘hard-wired’ within our psyche, conditioning our deep-seated attitudes toward life, death, religion, or sexuality. Meditation can help you connect with the collective subconscious located at the first chakra at the base of the spine and clear the heavy patterns and negative karma that has been accumulated there.

The different layers of the collective subconscious include the legacy of your ancestors, the influence of your tribe, and the influence of the global community and entire planet.

First, the legacy of your ancestors, your family members who passed away. You may know of familial detrimental financial patterns, family health issues, or repetitive negative relationships in your lineage. Even if you don’t know about them, they can impact you. When working with the first chakra you can ask yourself, “What heavy ancestral pattern would I like to release from my first chakra? And once the heavy energy is released, what energy would I like to replace it with?”

Second, the influence of your tribe, which in modern time is the society, the land and the country where you live. Societies have their own challenges, for example war, violence, injustice or inequality. When working with the first chakra you can ask yourself, “What issue from the society, the land or my country that touches me most, would I like to release from the collective subconscious and my root chakra? And once the heavy energy is released, what energy would I like to replace it with?” If you are an emigrant, you can pick your country of origin or the country you live in. Choose the one that needs most shadow work and karmic clearing.

Third, the influence of the global community and the entire planet. For example, you may want to clear the collective subconscious from fanaticism, racism, or inequality of gender or races. Ask yourself, “What global issue that particularly touches me would I like to release from the subconscious of humanity and my first chakra? And once the heavy energy is released, what energy would I like to replace it with?”

Your personal subconscious

The second chakra is connected to your personal subconscious, which is your sense of being an individual separated from the collective. Meditation is an opportunity for you to connect with the place within you “where your being is established,” the birthplace of your individuality, so you can heal yourself at the deepest possible level.

As previously mentioned, the second chakra governs your instinctive self, your life force, your sexuality, your creative expression, desires and deepest emotions. It relates to your sensuality, meaning to all your senses. Your sensory system nourishes your terrestrial life, your pleasure to be alive, through your senses.

Meditation tips

When meditating on the first and second chakras, you can use the symbolic image of magma, which is a very magical substance of transmutation, between solid and liquid, between matter and energy. You can melt and destroy old patterns into the red-hot magma at the center of the earth and then create a new foundation full of potential with cooling and solidifying lava into pure primordial matter.

Meditation Script for Chakras Journey – Part 2 – Your Tribe

Focus your attention on the base of your spine to bring abundant energy, or prana, to support and nourish your first chakra. Visualize a grounding cord growing out of your spine reaching into the core of the earth. Feel gravity pull your energy downward. This energy pipeline grounds you and nourishes your first chakra. It is a powerful two-way street which enables you to release detrimental, toxic energy and absorb new, beautiful energy in its place.

Think about what you want to release from your bloodline, the story of trauma of your ancestors, and how it is affecting you. Inhale fully and then exhale through your mouth, releasing the toxicity, and the negativity from an ancestral pattern or a family trauma. Send these detrimental energies and memories down your grounding cord to return them to mother earth, who will recycle them.

Think about what you want to release from the society, the country, the land you live in and how it is affecting you. Inhale fully and then exhale through your mouth, releasing the toxicity, and the negativity from the society, the land, the country and how it affected you. Return these detrimental energies and memories to mother earth, for recycling.

Think about what you want to release from the collective subconscious, the shadow of the global community, war, injustice, inequality, poverty, racism and how it is affecting you. Inhale fully and then exhale through your mouth, releasing the toxicity, and the negativity from the collective subconscious, the shadow of the global community and how it is affecting you. Return these detrimental energies and memories to mother earth, for recycling.

After you clear old obsolete energies from the collective, it is time for you to rebuild a new foundation for yourself with collective energies that support you. Connect with the glowing magma at the center of the earth, the mysterious substance between matter and energy.

Visualize the magma coming up your grounding cord into your sacrum, bringing a beautiful energy, a new beginning for you and your entire lineage. Your roots are rejuvenated and strong, supporting your own healing and the healing of your lineage.

Visualize the magma coming up your grounding cord into your sacrum, bringing a new beautiful energy through you, that supports the society, the land and the highest destiny of your country. See the land and your country with the highest, most beautiful frequency, supporting your own healing and the healing of the collective.

Visualize the magma coming up your grounding cord into your sacrum, bringing a new beautiful energy through you, that supports a new beginning for the collective consciousness and the entire planet. See the entire planet filled with golden light supporting the healing of the collective consciousness and your own healing.

Then focus on your center of gravity, the point under your navel, the swadhisthana chakra, the abode of your sense of self. Feel the life force at your second chakra. Take time to differentiate your first chakra at your sacrum that resonates with the collective and second chakra below your navel holding your sense of individuality.

Focus on your second chakra of individuality and imagine yourself in a peach-colored crystal, a mix of pink and orange, the gentle colors of self-love, joy, and emotional comfort. The peach crystal is like a new skin, bringing healing to your second chakra and your sense of self. It harmonizes and balances your life force at second chakra happy, generating happiness and joy. With love and a new excitement, celebrate the rebirth of your individuality supported by your ancestors, the land, and mother earth. Rejoice in the feeling of being reborn, loved and cherished by the earth and the universe.

Accept your life force as a God-given gift and receive a deep healing of your second chakra by repeating mentally: “I welcome myself into a happy life and I am fully incarnated!” “I have unconditional love for myself and others!” “I am grounded in the unconditional love of those who came before me!”
